Steps for replacing the filter element of the wind turbine gearbox

2025-03-11

The replacement steps for wind turbine gearbox filters can be summarized as follows:
1、 Preliminary preparation
Stop equipment operation: Firstly, it is necessary to stop the operation of the wind turbine and ensure that it is in a safe state.
Cut off power: Cut off the relevant air switches inside the cabin cabinet to ensure that there is no voltage detected during the lower port inspection.
Cooling: Wait for the oil temperature to drop below 50 ℃ to ensure safe operation.
2、 Remove the filter element
Cleaning oil stains: Clean the oil stains and dust around the filter to avoid contaminating the filter element and oil during the replacement process.
Oil Drain: Use a suitable tool (such as a 10 gauge hex wrench) to open the oil drain port of the oil drain ball valve, retrieve the stored oil inside the filter, and then close the oil drain valve.
Disassemble the filter: Remove the vent oil pipe from the upper housing of the combination filter, use a ratchet wrench to loosen the fixing bolt of the upper end cover, remove the upper end cover, unscrew the filter end cover, and remove it upwards. When removing the filter element, gently move it back, forth, left, and right to facilitate its removal. At the same time, be careful not to damage the gasket installed inside the end cover groove, check if it is damaged, and replace it if it is damaged.
3、 Replace the filter element

Remove the old filter element: Remove the filter element and clean the housing of the oil filter system.
Check the new filter element: Take out the replacement filter element and confirm that it is the same model as the old filter element. At the same time, check if the seals of the new filter element are intact.
Install new filter element: Install in the reverse order of removing the filter element. When installing the filter element, the lower hole must be aligned with the positioning filter element seat at the bottom of the valve block before applying force to install it in place.
Installation of end cap: Install the cleaned end cap of the oil filter system, place the rubber sealing ring installed in the groove of the end cap intact, and ensure that the connection seal between the top cover and the filter barrel is intact. Use a wrench to securely fasten the end cap.

4、 Exhaust and Testing
Exhaust: After replacing the filter element, exhaust should be carried out. Install the oil pipe on the end cover, remove the oil pipe and connect it to one end of the gearbox. Start the low-speed oil pump to exhaust until there is oil discharged.
Test: Start the high-speed oil pump motor and run it for a period of time (such as 10 minutes) to test for oil leakage in the oil pipe joint and filter.
5、 Closing work
Clean up the site: After the test is normal, clean up the work site to ensure that the materials are clean and the site is cleared after the work is completed.
Start the generator: Start the wind turbine and check for any abnormal conditions.
Please note that the above steps may vary depending on different wind turbine gearbox models and manufacturer recommendations. In practical operation, the manufacturer's replacement guidelines and safety operating procedures should be strictly followed. In addition, regular replacement of filter cartridges is crucial for extending the lifespan and improving operational efficiency of wind turbines. Therefore, filter cartridges should be replaced in a timely manner according to the prescribed time intervals or usage conditions.
